SEC TOP FIVE

The SEC Top 5 sure got a shakeup this week! Check out the new rankings below.

1. Alabama (4– 0) AP Ranking – # 1

The Tide proved that just because the GOAT retired, that doesn’t mean that the Tide are going anywhere! Alabama just beat Georgia in the top game of the year so far and they certainly looked like National Championship contenders in doing so.

Last Week SEC Ranking: # 5

week 6 Opponent: @ Vanderbilt at 4:15 PM EDT Saturday 10/5/24

Rivalry Sports Prediction: Win

2. Texas (5 – 0) AP Ranking – # 2

The Longhorns beat Mississippi State 35 – 13 in Week 5, but the game was much closer than that for most of the game. This is the perfect time for the Longhorns to have their Bye week to regroup and get starting QB Quinn Ewers healthy.

Last Week SEC Ranking: # 3

week 6 Opponent: Bye Week

Rivalry Sports Prediction: Bye

3. Tennessee (4 – 0) AP Ranking – # 4

The Volunteers didn’t even play this week and they still look better after the week. Tennessee went into their Bye week looking great and many teams looked sluggish in Week 5. Now Tennessee is up to #4 in the AP Poll and will come out of their bye looking to continue their winning ways verse Arkansas.

Last Week SEC Ranking: # 4

week 6 Opponent: @ Arkansas at 7:30 PM EDT Saturday 10/5/24

Rivalry Sports Prediction: Win

4. Georgia (3 – 1) AP Ranking – # 5

Georgia lost a tough game on the road to a very good Alabama team, but the fact is that Georgia has set such high standards that they are not supposed to lose, ever. The Dawgs now need to regroup and get ready for Auburn to come to town this week.

Last Week SEC Ranking: # 1

week 6 Opponent: vs Auburn at 3:30 PM EDT Saturday 10/5/24

Rivalry Sports Prediction: Win

5. Ole Miss (4 – 1) AP Ranking – # 12

In a controversial decision I have kept Ole Miss in the SEC Top 5 over a very good Missouri team. That could change, but I truly think that in a head to head matchup Ole Miss is a better team. They laid an egg against Kentucky last week in an inexcusable loss that will make their goal of making the CFP much tougher.

The Rebs will need to come out focused and angry in order to go on the road and beat a tough South Carolina team this week. We will see what Ole Miss is made of by how they respond to their shocking loss last week.

Big Ten TOP FIVE

In the B1G things stay the same this week. Although Michigan played a closer game than expected and if their passing game doesn’t improve drastically will not be long for the B1G Top 5.

1. Ohio State (4 – 0) AP Ranking – # 3

The Buckeyes destroyed Michigan State 38 -7 this past week to stay undefeated. They will look to continue their dominant ways against a tougher opponent in Iowa this week.

Last Week B1G Ranking: # 1

week 6 Opponent: vs Iowa at 3:30 PM EDT Saturday 10/5/24

2. Oregon (4 – 0) AP Ranking – # 6

The Ducks started the season off slow, but they are building steam and won big against UCLA in Week 5 with a 34 – 13 final score. This week they look to keep improving when a much improved Michigan State team comes to town.

Last Week B1G Ranking: # 2

week 6 Opponent: vs  Michigan State at 9:00 PM EDT Friday 10/4/24

Rivalry Sports Prediction: Win

3. Penn State (4 – 0) AP Ranking – # 7

The Nittany Lions got a very good win against a ranked Illinois team last week in their 21 – 7 win. In their toughest test to date, Penn State passed and will look to continue to improve this week against UCLA.

Last Week B1G Ranking: # 3

week 6 Opponent: vs UCLA at 12:00 PM EDT Saturday 10/5/24

Rivalry Sports Prediction: Win

4. Michigan (4 – 1) AP Ranking – # 10

Michigan continued to show that they are a good team with a huge weakness at the QB position. Don’t believe the hype that this is sustainable, because it is not. Two weeks in a row the passing game or more accurately the lack of a passing game almost cost the team the game when all other areas of the team have been excelling.

Whether the Wolverines get some type of consistent quality from the QB position will be the deciding factor in how good of a season this team can have.

This week the Wolverines have a rematch of last year’s National Championship game when they travel to take on Washington.

Last Week B1G Ranking: # 4

week 6 Opponent: @ Washington at 7:30 PM EDT Saturday 10/5/24

Rivalry Sports Prediction: Win

5. USC (3 – 1) AP Ranking – # 11

USC took down Wisconsin 38 – 21 in Week 5 and will look to get another win this week when they travel to Minnesota. The Trojans might have one loss on their record, but if they can get past Minnesota and then beat Penn State in Week 7, USC will be poised to make the CFP in their first year in the B1G.

BIG-12 TOP FIVE

This Conference is a fun conference, because they have a lot of closely matched teams as evidenced by Conference leader Utah losing to Arizona two weeks after Arizona got embarrassed by Kansas State.

1. Utah (4 – 1) AP Ranking – # 18

The Utes could only withstand so many games without star QB Cam Rising and this past week it finally caught up with them when they lost 23 – 10 to Arizona. The season is not over, but Utah needs Rising to get healthy quickly.

This week the Utes have a Bye Week and will look to get Rising healthy and fine tune some areas so that they are ready to attack the rest of the season. I still think that Utah is the class of the league when Rising is healthy, so I will keep them at this spot for another week.

2. Iowa State (4 – 0) AP Ranking – # 16

The Cyclones just keep winning. They will look to continue to work their way up the AP poll this week by getting a win against a struggling Baylor team.

3. BYU (5 – 0) AP Ranking – # 17

The Cougars have been one of the surprises of the 2024 season so far. They are undefeated and have a big win against Kansas State on their resume. Their consistency has earned them a spot on the Big 12 Top 5 and this week they get a bye to rest up and fine tune their team for the rest of the season.

4. Kansas State (4 – 1) AP Ranking – # 20

Coming off a surprising  38 – 9 loss to BYU, the Wildcats showed their mettle by blasting a ranked Oklahoma State team 42 – 20 in Week 5. This week Kansas State has their Bye Week, but coming out of the bye we will see just how real Kansas State is when they travel to take on a Colorado team that only has one loss on the season.

5. Arizona (3 – 1) AP Ranking – # Unranked

The Wildcats make another appearance on the Big 12 Top 5, but if they want it to be a long term stay they will have to play more consistent football. This week they take on Texas Tech who is 4 and 1 on the year.

ACC TOP FIVE

For the first time this year ACC leader Miami looked vulnerable. With Clemson and SMU rising and Louisville, Boston College, and Pitt right behind them, we might see some shakeup in the Top 5 in the next few weeks. Will I give undefeated Duke any respect and place them in the Top 5, or do they need to prove themselves another week?

1. Miami (5 – 0) AP Ranking – # 8

The Hurricanes pulled out a tough 38 – 34 victory over Virginia Tech in Week 5. Pulling out a win in a tough game is something that every good team has to do at least once, but was it just a close game, or are the Hurricanes ripe for an upset?

We will find out when Miami travels cross country to take on Cal in Week 6.

2. Clemson (3 – 1) AP Ranking – # 15

Is Clemson’s offense starting to click or is it just the competition? In Week 5 Clemson defeated Stanford 40 -14 behind an offense that is clicking and a defense that played well. This week Clemson will take on longtime foe Florida State, who is reeling, but dangerous. FSU will be putting everything possible into this game, so the Tigers need to show up focused and ready.

3. Louisville (3 – 1) AP Ranking – # 22
